At the corner of innovation
Wentworth Innovation Center
School Project 2017
Professor: Charlie Scimino
The scope of this project focuses on the intersection corner of Massachusetts Avenue and Boylston Street, a bustling corner in Boston. The project outlines to design an Innovation Center for Wentworth Institute of Technology in order to extend its presence from the Fenway Area into the Back Bay.
This individual Innovation Center design encompasses program for labs, work rooms, and display areas while also having the capacity to entertain the public with outdoor terraces and showroom lobbies. Included is a private lease space for future residential or office expansion.
The design concept originated from a model using push-and-pull ideologies that would use the building as a means of giving better views of the other attractions nearby. With its bustling streets, the Innovation Center has potential to be used for the public. This design incorporates outdoor and panoramic viewing space through a rooftop garden area and public gallery space in the main lower floors.
